A curved awning mounted on the facade
A bat wing awning is mounted on the facade of a shop, cafe or restaurant and covers the shop window and entrance with fabric stretched over curved arms. When open, seen from the side, it takes a rounded shape that resembles a bat's wing, which is where the name comes from. When closed, the arms fold and the fabric gathers against the facade.
This awning is used for the narrow strip in front of the facade. It covers the shop window and entrance, shades customers waiting at the door and creates a second visible surface above the sign.
Options for a Bat Wing Awning
- Fabric: Acrylic awning fabric or PVC-coated tarpaulin. Acrylic awning fabrics usually have a matte, textile look; PVC-coated tarpaulins have a glossy surface and can be wiped clean.
- Control: Manual or motorized.
- Color: The fabric color is chosen to suit your facade.
Before installation
A bat wing awning is fixed to the facade with anchor bolts; the mounting surface must be load-bearing, such as concrete, brick or steel. On facades with external insulation or composite panel cladding, the fixing points are determined in advance. Installing an awning on an apartment building facade depends on the building management rules; on main streets, municipal sign and awning rules may limit the size and color. Check with your municipality and building manager before installation. When open, the front edge of the awning must stay high enough not to touch a passerby's head; the free facade height above the shop window is measured for this.
For places where the awning cannot be fixed to the facade, see the Freestanding Awning page; to open and close a wide area on rails, see the Retractable Bellows Awning page. Other models are in the Shade Systems category. For a quote, send us the facade width and a photo of the facade.
