Spiral or flat?
Spiral razor wire is coiled and forms a bulky barrier. In flat razor wire, the coils are flattened and overlapped in a single plane, so it sits flush with the face or top edge of the fence.
- 45 cm Spiral Razor Wire: a single row without brackets on top of factory, warehouse and facility walls.
- 60 cm Spiral Razor Wire: on V or Y brackets on top of panel or wire fences.
- 90 cm Spiral Razor Wire: laid on the ground as a separate barrier line in front of or behind the fence.
- 45 cm Flat Razor Wire: the top edge of sliding and swing gates.
- 60 cm Flat Razor Wire: flush with the top edge of a panel fence, without overhanging the sidewalk or the neighboring plot.
- 90 cm Flat Razor Wire: covers the face of a fence or wall.
Razor wire carries a risk of injury to people and animals; some municipalities restrict its use on gardens and on top of walls. Check with your municipality before installing: Is Razor Wire Legal? For the supporting fence, see the Panel Fence group.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between spiral and flat razor wire?
Spiral razor wire is coiled and forms a bulky barrier on top of a fence or on the ground. In flat razor wire the coils are flattened and overlapped in a single plane; it is fitted flush with the face or top edge of the fence and does not overhang.
What do 45, 60 and 90 cm in the product name mean?
For the spiral type they give the coil diameter; for the flat type, the loop diameter, that is, the height of the strip.
Can razor wire be used in a residential garden?
That depends on local regulations; some municipalities restrict razor wire on gardens and on top of walls. Check with your municipality before installing, and do not fit the wire at a height children and animals can reach.
What is razor wire fitted on?
It is fitted on V- or Y-shaped brackets on top of a panel or wire fence, on top of a wall or on the top edge of a gate. The 90 cm spiral type can also be laid on the ground as a separate line.
What should I watch out for when fitting razor wire?
The blades are sharp: wear cut-resistant gloves, thick long-sleeved work clothing and safety glasses, and do not work alone when unrolling the coil.
